The Tooling Process:

The injection moulding process begins with the design and manufacture of tooling in the form of a mould.  When tooling is designed, factors such as hardness of steel used and number of cavities are very important and need to be taken into consideration due to the costs involved in creating high quality precision tooling.

The Production Process:

The injection moulding process begins with feeding granular plastic from a hopper into a heated barrel. These granules are slowly moved forward by a screw-type plunger until the plastic is forced into a heated chamber where it is then melted.

The molten plastic material is then forced through the injection nozzle into the mould cavity/s. Depending on the factors such as product size, design complexity and material, there are many aspects to consider such as shrinkage when he product cools and solidifies. To avoid such shrinkage, engineers will work out the cycle time or the time pressure is maintained in the mould to compensate for this shrinkage. The cycle time is the time from which molten plastic is injected into the mould cavity to the time the product solidifies into a shape that has conformed to the contour of the mould and is ejected from the mould as a unit.

We will then manufacture any moulds required and move forward to the sampling stage. Pre-production samples will be produced for you to check before mass production.

When these samples are approved, GSS will manage the production of the products. Our aim is to have this done in a timely manner with the specified tolerances and approved samples as our measures.
